What Man Down is, and what it isn't.
We want you to be able to trust what you read here. That means being straight about what we can and can’t do.
Man Down is
- A place to startPlain information about mental health, drink, drugs and the pressures men carry.
- A signpostWe point you to helplines, services and meetings that can actually help, and keep those links checked.
- Real storiesMen sharing what it was like and what helped, always with their permission.
- IndependentNot part of any charity, health service or other men’s group. That includes Man Down UK and Andy’s Man Club.
- FreeThe help on this site is free, and always will be.
Man Down isn't
- A crisis serviceWe can’t respond to emergencies and our inbox isn’t watched around the clock. If you’re in danger, call 999 or 112, or Samaritans free on 116 123.
- Medical adviceNothing here replaces a GP, pharmacist or other professional who knows your situation.
- Counselling or therapyWe aren’t counsellors, but we can help you find one.
- A treatment serviceWe don’t run detox, rehab or meetings ourselves.
- Endorsed by who we listLinking to a group or service doesn’t mean they back us, or that we’re connected.
How we keep it trustworthy
The rules we hold ourselves to.
- We check our linksPhone numbers and services are checked against official sources, and pages say when they were last checked.
- We use good sourcesHealth information comes from the NHS, the HSE and the organisations themselves.
- Nobody pays to be listedServices can’t pay to appear here, or to change what we say about them.
- Stories need consentNothing goes up without the person’s say so, and they can ask us to take it down at any time.
- Tell us when we’re wrongSpotted something out of date? Email contactus@mandown.info and we’ll fix it.
